Cocks, Campfires, And Connections
Sun, rain, and 385 men later, we walked away from Naked Man Camp with sand in our shoes, sore cheeks from laughing, and a renewed sense of what queer community can feel like. This isn’t just tents and discos. It’s consent-first workshops, big-hearted conversations, and a culture where strangers become chosen family over a weekend.
We paint the scene from the ground up: a campsite layout that mixes RVs with swags so money doesn’t map to status, a camp kitchen that doubles as a meeting point, and activities that swing from playful to profound. You’ll hear our take on mindful masturbation and Intimate Ocean, where touch, breath, and presence turn awkward into anchored. There’s a riot of joy in the talent-slash-no-talent show too—roller skates, disco tricks, and a gloriously unhinged Glinda moment—proving that queer spaces are at their best when they’re generous, silly, and safe.
The heart of the episode is chosen family. We share insights from a panel that ranged across ages and experiences: the younger voice who removes guesswork with “Do you want to be friends?”, and the older gent who built a care roster for surgery recovery when blood relatives weren’t available. It’s a reminder that community is more than a hashtag—it’s the spreadsheet, the lift, the soup drop-off, the late-night check-in. We also talk growth: oversubscribed sessions, weather curveballs, and how a diverse committee keeps the camp evolving without losing its warmth.
If you’re curious about queer retreats, consent culture, and building a life supported by people who truly see you, this one will land. Hit play, subscribe for more Fully Grown Homos, and share this with someone in your chosen family—who would you roster for your care list?

Welcome to Fully Grown Homos, a podcast about our adventures as fully grown himos navigating today's world full of inquisitive friends' questions about gay life and the unexplored activities of a life lived as fully grown homos.
SPEAKER_03:We'll discuss the gay 101s, sex, sexuality, and topics we don't even know yet. As we want your input into what you want to hear, nothing is off limit, so email us on the fully grown homospodcast at gmail.com.
SPEAKER_02:Or message any of our socials, Fully Grown Homos Podcast. Welcome, Matthew. Yeah, and where are we today? We're at the Naked Man Camp, Dave. 2025. 2025. Welcome back. Welcome back. To you. Yeah, I haven't been for a few years have I had some weddings. Weddings, and then last year both away. We went to Singapore last year and um this year got our cocks out with And it's bigger and better than ever before.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, it's huge. It is, and and the cap as well. So quickly, just you know, for people that haven't sort of like listened to the podcast and our mentions of the naked man camp, because we have done in the past. Uh just quickly describe the setting where we are at the moment.
SPEAKER_02:Alright, so where we are at the moment, we've set up not too far from what I think they're calling the main tent this year or the main area, and it's basically a big gazebo, it's permanent fixture. Um, it's got sort of like a high-pitched roof and stuff like that. Um so and we're set up not too far from that, but around us we actually have like tents galore. There's like little camper caravans, there's like there's a the tents that are up on top of the roofs of cars, they're those ones. There's some like really extravagant um it's a mix, it's a collective mix of tents, caravans, camper bands, yeah, swags, there's people in their actual cars, like people are actually naked around us. Yeah, well, what's there's dicks everywhere.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, and that's about the biggest thing. But look, I mean the the main thing is, I mean, they've changed the campsite layout this this year um compared to years before. And I think they've got it right. It's down to the case. It looks great, it's great. It looks great. Beforehand, they used to have the RVs to one section because obviously they wanted all the homes and the caravans and the vehicles out of the way because it's obviously, you know, they didn't want to cluster everything up. But they've allowed everybody to sort of like mingle this time. Yes, um, but I think you know, the actual the way it's set up and the way people have actually just put themselves in natural lines of tents is great.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, it's uh it's uh it's it's quite a good dynamic because it's sort of it's it's not like the people that can afford RVs have got their space and then this like everyone's actually talking to everyone and everyone like that as well. So it's a bit of a mingle, bit of a mingle happening.
SPEAKER_03:But we've got toilet blocks, we've got a camp kitchen set up, you've got everything you need, yeah, and more. Yeah, even though we still bought everything. Absolutely, as we always do. Um, but look, I mean, just talk about the the general sort of like demographics of people that are here that we've seen so far.
SPEAKER_02:Well, so there's there's this year, um, we were told earlier that there's 385 men. Which is a massive amount of which is a huge amount of turning out, and that includes um all the volunteers and the team that work and the committee and all that kind of stuff, right? Um but then in that you've got people, I'd say there's some guys here that are like 19, 20 years old, right? There's some very young guys here, and then there's people that I think are up to like uh close to 70s, 80s. Yeah, absolutely. It'd be interesting to find out the actual section. Yeah, we'll ask we'll ask the guys um if they actually have the seems to be a lot more younger people here this time than past years, which is a great thing. Yeah, well I went to the opening ceremony and um because I was asleep, so you were Dave was having a nap after we'd set up the tent because that was fucking hard work. It was um but um I went to the opening ceremony and there was so when they called for new people, newbies to step into the middle, there was huge, but there was not many left on the outside circle, um so it was huge, and then that was only on day one on Thursday afternoon, sort of five o'clock. But then there's been more and more people arrive as well, and as they've been chatting to different people, um, because that's what we do, um, we found a lot of them are all new as well.
SPEAKER_03:So and we've had a cross-mixture of people from interstate, yeah. Melbourne, Brisbane, and even over from New Zealand. Yeah, from New Zealand from over. And I know in past years we've had people from Canada and America come over as well. Yeah. Um, but look, I mean, you know, for me, apart from the weather this year, we've had a lot of rain yesterday. Yeah, but it didn't dampen the spirits, did it? I mean we were still able to do all the facilities that are going on. Yeah. And describe what the facilities, or the should I say, the activities, not facilities, the workshops and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_02:So so I guess the ones that we've done so far this year, we did the four-handed massage. Which we'll talk about later on. Which was fun. It could be a probably separate podcast that one's so funny. Who knows? Who knows? But yeah. Um, so that that was that was entertaining. Um, and then we did the one was called Mutual Masturbation Mindful Masturbation. Hang on, Dave's just giving me the nod to have a look at. Okay, cool, interesting. Um, some some interesting characters are walking past now, they're all tethered together in one giant elastic loop. Um, there's a lead pony happening at the front there, and yeah. Free spirits. So yeah, but lovely. Lovely, lovely, lovely. Well done, pony, well done. Um you gotta whip him.
SPEAKER_03:Um I think we've got a few other guys walking past us right this minute.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, and three other hot guys. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_03:Look, I mean, you know, to describe the the men here, I mean they're just very very beautiful, yeah, attractive, handsome men. Yeah, all shapes, all even all personalities, all ages, but yeah, it's just a wonderful, wonderful environment to be able to.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, it really, really is. But yeah, so back to the um activities. I think there's activities that we've done. We've done uh the mindful masturbation this morning. Mindful morning masturbation was. Yeah, and that was um quite good. Um it was basically just 30 guys in a room. Um 40 guys plus in a room, um, all sort of touching your body and learning how to touch your body in different ways and stuff like that. And how all self-pleasuring, but also getting a lot from it.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Jesus Christ, see the size of that thing. I mean, God. There's a huge big piece. Jesus. Um, I used to snuff a lot because just came to my camp. Uh but yeah, um, sorry. Um but yeah, um, so yeah, we did that one, and then what else did we done?
SPEAKER_03:Yesterday we did the um the one like the ocean thing.
SPEAKER_02:Oh yeah, intimate ocean, yeah, intimate ocean. That was something we hadn't done before. Which was like a big giant hug, basically, and stuff like that. They they they paired us up originally, and they and then you multiply. We had to do what was called a gourmet hug, which is where you put your whole body into the hug basically. You get really close, and then you take three deep breaths, and sort of you the last one you sort of let out with a sigh.
SPEAKER_03:And one good thing about this camp is everything is consensual. Yeah, you know, I mean you have to keep your permission for it. Yeah, permission consent. And I think that's a wonderful thing. This is great. Um, and everybody is abiding by that rule, which is fantastic. Yeah, everything that we've seen, yes. Um but the thing is, well, I mean, we've met a few new people here this year so far. Some great guys, you know, and I'm sure that's a good idea. They'll go on to be good friends, yeah. Yeah, absolutely. We've met people from the past years, um, but we'll be catching up with them later on and doing a bit of a podcast with those people. They already agreed to that haven't we? Um, but yeah, so this is pretty much just a little bit of a take of what's what we've we've experienced so far this year. Um but we will be having a bit longer conversations with Kurt and Tobacco um regarding the camp, how it all originated from and where it's going to go forward. So, yeah, so we'll talk about them more in depth later on.
SPEAKER_02:Yep.
SPEAKER_03:Um but for now it's a case of like we're gonna head off in a minute to another activity.
SPEAKER_02:We've got a one that and this Dave sort of when he found out um Yeah, he he sort of is a bit ambiguous about this one. Look, I mean it's actually conversations, and it's um basically the topic for today's one is is all around um choosing family choosing your chosen family, which which I have a lot of cho like I've got a really good family, but then I also have a lot of chosen family, like in people like Miami, um, you know, Vic, Fran, um Bron, John, like all those guys, they're all my chosen family, like uh Amber, Courtney, Adam, like the list goes on and on. And they uh and I do consider them family. Yeah, they're the closest friends we have, yeah. But so the thing is that yeah, so those guys are actually sort of uh my chosen family in that as well. So but this this is going to be quite an interesting conversation to see where it leads and where it goes as well.
SPEAKER_03:And this is the thing this year. I mean, we've got different activities that have not been available in past years.
SPEAKER_02:Previous years, which is great because it's not the same thing every year, then as well. So but I'm I'm spewing they missed the mud run this year, they're not doing much of it.
SPEAKER_03:But the psychic magic this morning as well. Again, it's one of those things they're so popular, these activities, and they're limited to numbers of people they can get in each time. Yeah, uh, if you don't get there on time, unfortunately, you know, you've got to sort of either wait and see if there's another session later on, or just find another alternative that you can probably go to that you can sort of enjoy as well, you know.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, but yeah. So we're gonna leave it there for now because we're gonna go and get ready for our um next session and um we'll talk to you soon. Right, bye-bye. Bye. Dave is naked, and you are too. Bye. Good afternoon, Dave. It's and it is just literally afternoon. Literally just afternoon on Sunday. We're still where are we, Dave? Well, we're still at the naked man camp, Matt. Still at Naked Man Camp? Feeling very chill now.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, after the last night's uh explosive night. Oh, that was you were one of the main attractions.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, yeah, we did um, it was a a talent comp called no talent comp or talent slash no talent comp. So you got to choose what you classified yourself as, and I figured it I'll just let the audience decide. Well, we we knew what you were gonna do initially, then we changed our plan when we were here. I was gonna do um Defying Gravity. We'd sort of gone to the costume shop prior to leaving home and um found a Glinda Richard Hatton and uh Glinda a tiara and all that kind of stuff, and but then we got here and the um specifications. The specifications, the sign-up said that there could be no longer than three minutes. And so I went, oh fuck, Defying Gravity is like five and a half minutes. And you tried to look for a shorter version, but there was nothing really suitable to your that involved both our uh both um, I guess, um both voices, yeah. Both oh my god, both Alphaba and and Garlinda. Um so I thought, okay, let's have a look around, and then I ended up choosing Popular, which was quite popular. Popularly popular. It was um a lot of fun.
SPEAKER_03:Um look, I mean, to be honest with you, I I really admire you for what you did because unscripted. Describe my outfit, Dave. Well, look, I mean, I left it to you to put your outfit on, which wasn't very much as normal. Um he came back with these bright pink sunglasses with uh um the Diamondes all around them. He had a tiara with a big cock on the top.
SPEAKER_02:Let me tell you about those sparkly Diamondy sunglasses. Okay. I actually bought them for Chanel and Blondie when I was doing photography with them. By the way, so they'd be my baby girls. They're um Chanel and Blondie, Miss and Pearly. Yep, okay. But um, but yeah, so I actually bought those for them when I was doing photo shoots a while ago. So, and when we were just trifling through shit at home before we came, I saw him and Dave went, these would be cute. And I went, Yeah, throw them in, right? So they're quite small on my head.
SPEAKER_03:But they came in handy, they came in handy, they were fun. So, yeah, so he had a tiara on, obviously with no hair because you don't have hair. Because I don't have hair. And we were looking for a blonde wig because there was one layer last night, but um performance was like he was using it again that night, so that was okay. Yep, but it did work out better with you without the wig anyway.
SPEAKER_02:So my tiara, I had my um again another dog accessory, which was a dime collar, which we wrapped extended around your neck, put around my neck because it wasn't small enough because my dogs are tiny.
SPEAKER_03:Um look, and then obviously you had a little bit of eye makeup on, I think, which you quickly did. I fucking had a ton of makeup on it. Literally just with the glasses, we couldn't really see that. And it was sort of like disco night sort of like light header.
SPEAKER_02:I tried to go with all the deep purples and the deep greens and deep pinks and deep reds.
SPEAKER_03:The way it worked was basically all the um everybody was sitting around in a big sort of U-shaped circle around the dance floor area. Horseshoe. Horseshoe, should I say, yeah, and the judges were at the far end, and there were four judges that were selected by the committee. And you had something like I think it was 10 or 12 entrants. Yeah, 12 entrants, I think there was. And you were number nine, I think it was. Eight or nine, yeah. Eight or nine. Anyway, um, and yeah, so Matt had a blue doll, which became alpha bar, yeah. Which we painted green. We did. And the paint came off quite quickly. Yeah, which was thank you, because it was having amazing. This like apron which I'd had from another uh fancy dress night, where it has like a cock on it. Yep. So we attached that to Alpha Bar, so it gave her a cock, which was the first of many cocks. Yeah, and then Matt had a couple of my big dildos.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, well, Dave's got a dildo. You've probably, if you've heard previous episodes, you've heard about us talk about the 747 that he ordered online and um never used. Let's just say it turned up and it was significantly bigger, like a like an aircraft, yeah. Yeah, it's fucking huge.
SPEAKER_03:So that doesn't go anywhere with us, but it came in good for you because being popular. We attached um a smaller um dildo to the end of the broom, didn't we, for Alpha Buddha? Which was actually a mop and it was a green mop. Worked out really well. Um and you basically sang the song to Alpha Buddy, you carried it around floating in your arms. Glinda. Glinda, sorry. You were calling.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, I sang to her, yes. Yes, yeah, you were. And told her I basically I reenacted the whole the whole scene.
SPEAKER_03:You participated in the audience and you got everybody laughing. Smacking people in the face for the duality. But I was I was very, very proud of you for doing what you did. Oh, it was fun. It was very good, and you know, you you came second on the score list, which is really good.
SPEAKER_02:S some of the well, technically third, um, but anyways, you know. Um but the the the guy that won, right, he was holy fuck. Like I seen only seen him backstage, and he well, I can't remember his name. He looked a bit like uh He had a a stage name, right? But he had like a sort of dirty body 80s roller skates. He was on Roll Skate. Disco pants, disco top skated to Boogie Wonderland, I think it was. Yep. And did tricks and did like Benson Boone on on roller skates, remember? Yeah, he he literally jumped off the stage. He scattered the stage.
SPEAKER_03:He was skipping with the skipping rope as well. Oh I didn't know.
SPEAKER_02:And then he laid Kurt down, the um the the I guess the organizer. The the yeah, the organiser uh the whole idea. Here we will talk to it later on. We'll talk to Kurt a little bit later. Um and um he um laid him down and leaped over him on skates, which apparently like I could I was backstage so I didn't get to see any of this unfortunately. But it sounded like the roar was fucking crazy. Um crazy. There's like there was some spoken word, um, not my thing, but some of it got a few cheers, one of it got a little bit out of hand. Um yeah, he was a bit of a dick, that guy. I'm sorry. Um but again he was dealt with appropriately, so yeah, the guys handled him brilliantly. Um but then there was some some some some vocalists there, and oh my god.
SPEAKER_03:Aaron Manhattan, who is the DJ, MC. MC. He did an act. He's phenomenal. He is so talented.
SPEAKER_02:He is so gifted.
SPEAKER_03:And he came out and decided that he was going to do an entrance towards the new included, but he just wanted a bit more drama. So him and the two other of the um facilitators, you were the guys that help out. Um he dressed up in a black wig and a big blow-up like woman's outfit. These huge titties, but somewhat like Miami's. He looked like Miami, which is great, because it was fantastic because his appearance and he sang um close to you by the carpenters. By the carpenters. But he was on a trolley spinning around and round, but it was fucking hysterical.
SPEAKER_02:That trolley was a last-minute thing because he said, I wonder if this would hold me backstage, and then he's basically tested it, and it held him perfectly fine. He said to the those boys, Yeah, I want you to take me out there. And this like literally there was something spontaneous and improvised, but and so it looked because I did get to watch that, and it looked like it was rehearsed the way they were spinning them. He he's such a talented person, he really is.
SPEAKER_03:He's a genius, an amazing person, like everybody is here, you know. I mean, and for us, I mean, like every time we come to the main camp or the naked camp, it's called now, um, it's basically a lot of fun, it's just a very chilled environment, everybody gets on well with each other, and we've already made lots of new friends this time around again. Chatter with lots of people, you know, and you know, for us coming forward, going forward with other camps, it's going to be more entertaining. I mean, we've got 385 guys this time, including facilitators, um, so it's evolving very, very quickly. I remember the very first camps I used to go to, and it's probably about 95 to 100 people there. Yeah, so you know, it's tripled, even like quadrupled in time in the last seven years or so, you know. Yeah, so and that's all down to people like Kurt, Debaco, and all the organizers and the people behind the scenes who do such a great job with the camp and providing great service to us guys that come here every year and just have four days of fun, enjoyment, relaxation, and togetherness.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, and together, and and look, the thing is that there are, and I guess for somebody on the outside looking in, you'd be thinking, and I know we've been asked the question like nearly 300 naked men, it people just fucking everywhere, and the answer is yes slash no. No, yeah. Right. So there are definitely people that have come here just to literally release themselves, and just have numbers, right? Really get their numbers up almost. Um, and the people like there's some super fit bodies, oh look, yeah, like amazing looking like. But everybody's amazing looking, man. Everybody, you know. Yeah, but like the thing is that but then there's like the you got the you just average guys, yeah.
SPEAKER_03:You got the elite people like you would have in a sort of like bodybuilding competition's pretty much stuff like that. But again, it doesn't make them better than anybody else. Oh no, no, no, no. It just in aesthetically for looking wise, yeah. You are naturally drawn to that because of the desire to want to be like them, I suppose. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02:And and and look and like physically and the appearance. Well we just have four of them walk right past us right now. Yeah, and fucking beautiful beats too. I'll tell you what. Um, and that's the thing is that you don't have to sit there and go, I wonder what his cock looks like, because you can just see straight away.
SPEAKER_03:And that's funny because when we go to the urinal, as I was quite the right. You mean urine quoted by the boys?
SPEAKER_02:Well then two of our good friends um that we've met here, um, like they're they're they're like amazing. They're gonna be in our life now. Um button. And they're gonna do a podcast with us later on, maybe not today, but going forward after they've got back home and stuff like that. We're gonna catch up with those guys because they are awesome. Um, so and and sort of already feel love for those, them. So um, but like it's just like I don't know, so much to do here, so much to see. Um yesterday I went and did a breath work class, which they didn't do. No. Um, but it was really, really good. Now I've dabbled in breath work once before with Miami. Yep. And um this was completely different again because it wasn't a regressive one, it was basically just all about sharing love and sharing sort of energies and stuff like that. And I was laying in this circle with these people, and basically we started out back to back. We had a partner given to us, um, and we basically sat behind us and I had this beautiful guy. He was uh like his eyes were sparkly, his hair's beautiful, curly, uh, nice little Benson Boone style mo. As we did, we love Benson Boone. Alright, we love Benson. Um, we just listened to him, um right. But he's sort of basically sitting there sitting there, and we had to do back to back and we had to breathe sort of bit in time, sort of, and uh, and then we sort of faced each other and had to do some eye gazing. But then we sort of laid down and we all um had to hold hands and basically just let energy flow through all of us and while we were taking through different breaths, and it was a phenomenal experience. Like I I got the energy that was coming through me at one stage, it was so much that I had to actually let go of my hands um because it got a little bit too much for me. Um, but then another guy, Michael, that was on my right, he sort of changed grip. And as soon as he changed grip, it was like he changed it with like from from and it was all positive, but the way he changed the grip, it actually turned into this really warm, care no really caring grip. Right, okay. Um, and it was sort of the where the fingers were interlocked instead, and then I was I was able to just relax into it, and it's just the felt from that moment on, like the energy just was amazing. So we did that one.
SPEAKER_03:Because we were gonna go to the um psychic magic one, we're gonna do it. Yeah, we were gonna do something today as well, weren't we? Well, we still might do, we might have time. I mean, because obviously we have got time. So today's gonna be our last day. Yeah, we've already packed the 10 down and we're just sitting under the gazebo with uh a few things out at the moment, but we won't leave until about 6:30 tonight after the closing ceremony, yeah. Um just purely because it's not in our interest to stay tonight because it's another disco, which is great. We've been to it before. Yeah, I didn't know. Then it is a long way in terms like you know, from it's a it's a very dark and unlit sort of environment we're in. Yeah, so for him, you know, it's gonna be easier for us to drive back. Plus, we've got to pick up his dogs as well.
SPEAKER_02:As a 54 year old, I mean, I danced till nearly midnight last night, and that's enough for me.
SPEAKER_03:I I gave in at about 10:30 and I came back and I was like buggered. Um, but then I was up at quarter to six this morning. Yeah, so that was that was more than enough for me. But did I don't know if I but the weather's been it's good today at the moment, it's boarding hot, so it's gone from being like rain and miserable and overcast to being super hot now. Yeah. Um again, I mean it's one of those things that you can't predict the weather, unfortunately. But we have had camps where it's been just rain all day, every day, and we've had camps where it's been sun all day. Which is perfect, yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Which is pretty cool.
SPEAKER_03:So that's it. But look, it hasn't dampened anybody's spurs. Everybody's still been out, everybody's been cold, you know, obviously because it's been immutably intended yet. Yeah, but otherwise it's been a successful camp, I reckon, you know. Yeah, it's been a great camp so far. Hello, how are you?
SPEAKER_02:Good, good, good, good, good, good, good, good.
SPEAKER_03:We're just doing a podcast at the moment. So, yeah, so how how have you enjoyed yourself? Have you enjoyed it?
unknown:Oh, absolutely.
SPEAKER_03:Is this your first time or my third time? Awesome. And have you found it better this time or um yeah, yes.
SPEAKER_00:Like, well, it's it's always improving. Yes. It's got to stick under the new administration this time. Yeah, that's right, yeah. I think those guys have done a pretty good effort. Absolutely. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Um we were saying, see, like and Orhaal Curtin Law was for starting it all up and doing all that kind of stuff, but we said I I would be I'm I love the fact that it's actually gone committee because everyone, and there's such a different demographic on the committee, that I think everyone's gonna get to say things because if it had to stay within the same parameters, if you hand it back to one person, I would I would be a bit nervous that if it was like a muscle hunk that was running the whole thing, yeah, that all the muscle hunks in this had just turned into a fuck fest for everyone, which is fine. But it but it's more than that.
SPEAKER_00:So as I said, no, I actually actually tend, the more years though that I attend this, the first year was like I did everything. Yep, yep. Then I probably did less the next time, not because I didn't like it, it was because I wanted to experience it in a different way. Because while the um workshops are on, there's people to talk to in the exact around uh uh there's the swimming pool.
SPEAKER_01:And if you miss out on something, there's always an opportunity later on at the end of the day you just get it done, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, and I think what the committee needs to focus on is has it got all these activities? Because workshops, if you add up the number of people available at a particular time, it isn't going to match the number of people that have booked tickets. No, yeah. So, and we all know that not everyone will want to go and do that, absolutely, but do they have something else to go and do? Yeah, and I think this is great the conversations one, the those people they're quite good.
SPEAKER_02:They were great. We did that one yesterday, and it and that was about chosen family, and it was really good. And something that we uh uh Dave. He didn't understand the concept, so he was a bit oh I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_03:I'm not sure what to expect.
SPEAKER_02:But walked out of there thinking, this is fucking awesome. So I enjoyed that one. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00:And um, yeah, I think they're good, and I think with a new committee, they'll come up with new ideas uh to to explore.
SPEAKER_03:What did you find with the numbers increasing? It's good, isn't it? It's good to see you.
SPEAKER_00:Uh yes, and I think what they did, they increased a few workshops. They might say they put those on, but the question is does that solve that time slot problem? What about the other time slots? So it's about making more things around. Yeah, and and and the rain didn't help with that. No, no, it's people focused on that.
SPEAKER_03:But like you said, I mean it's just um it's a learning curve, and I think as the years progress forward again with numbers, maybe increases slightly more again to see if they can appreciate. I just think it's going in the positive direction, isn't it? Um, but you know, have you come from far? I mean I'm in Sydney in Asia. Oh, okay, yeah, same. Awesome. Well, thank you so much for that anyway. Okay, and uh yeah, we'll look forward to uh catching up with a lot of people anyway as we go through, anyway, right? Good luck, see you soon, take care, thank you so much, thank you. That was our neighbour from the next tent across. That was the next tent across, yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Lovely guy here as well. We've chatted.
SPEAKER_03:People have been all friendly here, and some of them have come up to us and said, look, we'd love to do a podcast with you. Unfortunately, I don't think we're gonna get a chance, unfortunately, this time to do a lot of podcasting because we were limited yesterday in weather-wise, but at the at the same time, we've had um you know opportunities today. Yeah, we've been busy, and we're gonna go we're gonna pop up very shortly uh to see um Joey. And what does he do, Matt?
SPEAKER_02:He he's actually he his um name for his business is Lovejoy. And he's based in London. So he's uh he bases himself in Tantra. Yep. Um now I'm not I I I got part of the conversation. But we'll be having that conversation with the time. But we'll we'll get to ask him all about him. Um we'll let him explain.
SPEAKER_03:He was on the committee yesterday, wasn't he? He was on the panel discussing his polyamorous uh relationships. Yeah, but we're gonna talk about that in a separate thing with him.
SPEAKER_02:But such a awesome person, a warm human, like such a and and so much care just emanating from him. It was just like I sat there and I went like you instantly connect with some people, yeah, and he was definitely one of the ones that I instantly connected with. So, like, I mean, the panel yesterday, I think we spoke about that already, didn't we? Yeah, before we went in, we did it. Yeah, yeah, we did. We spoke about well, no, we didn't so we haven't spoken about post. Okay. No, we did it before we went, remember, yesterday. We we left off before we went in. So the panel yesterday, so it was based on chosen family, right? Now I thought it was going to be based on chosen family for the queer community, right, as such. But when we got in there, there were four panelists, um, and they were from varying age groups and stuff like that. Very age groups, um, varying backgrounds, varying years of being out and stuff like that. There was one significantly younger guy, um, one guy, uh Joey, I think, is around our age, I think. Yep. Um, and then there was a couple of older gents, one that had sort of only been out for three years.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Um, but he was very close-minded, right? In in acceptance of himself and others to a degree.
SPEAKER_03:But he'd been through a lot.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, yeah, hell of a lot, hell of a lot. Um but the thing is the workshop asked a few different questions. Um some of the some of the things around it, like around choosing your family, um, and and one of the younger guys who when they were asked, like, you know, how do you overcome communication issues and things like that with with your chosen family, or are there any problems? And he said, Well, I actually make it really clear and actually just say, Hey, we've hung out a few times now. Do you want to be friends? Right? Um, so there's no ambiguity around it thinking, are we just hanging out when we're hanging out? Are we just doing the So we're just doing that. But yeah, and that's sort of I I resonate with him a lot. I thought he was such a cool person.
SPEAKER_03:He was emotionally intelligent. The fact that he is still a young person, um around about mid-20s, I think. I thought he was younger than that, but he's obviously mid-20s for what he was saying. Yeah. But what a mature person for his age. Yeah. But what a great outlook. I mean, you know, turning negative to positive situations is what he does best. But he uses humour as well, which I think is a magical sort of like act and skill.
SPEAKER_02:But even and and a lot of it, I guess, resonated with my chosen family, like the likes of Courtney, Amber, Vic, so on and so on and so on, and so on. Miami. Anyone in our social circle. Anyone in our social circle that I call family because it's hard to sort of not mention people because important to me, right? But one of the older gentlemen said that he's got to go in for an operation soon. And um he's basically put together a roster of people to look after him and stuff like that. Now, that similar sort of thing, and and I don't know that she went down that path, and I I'd be actually very surprised if she didn't, but um but I know when Amber went through her health issues and stuff like that, and we will have Amber on at some stage to chat about different things, um, mainly travel, yeah, um, because she's the queen of travel. Um, but he said that he's basically put together a roster of people to look after him while he's actually um while he's recovering and stuff like that. And he said he did it for a friend and he put together a whole XL spreadsheet where everyone had a shift and it was all that kind of stuff. So I thought to myself, oh my god, that's amazing. Um, that he's actually got, I guess, enough chosen family because he said his his blood family, unfortunately, um choose not to care for him, right? And I and that's where I count myself extremely lucky. Yeah, that my my blood family, um, or less at least the majority of them. That's that's reciprocal for me as well. Yeah, I mean it's the same, yeah, for you. But like the thing is, but then I like I said, I really am grateful for my chosen family as well. So that's that was that was a great workshop for us and a very good.
SPEAKER_03:You've got to remember, I think I spend more time, well I do, I know I do, I spend more time with my chosen family than I do with my own family. Apart from obviously my son and every now and then my ex-wife, yeah. But you know, and my sister every every now and then, but obviously my mum being in the UK and my brother still being in the UK, my sister-in-law and my nephew and nieces. I mean, I can't see them, obviously. Um, but but for me, I have no issues with them either. They have no issues with me, so that's good.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Like you said, you hang around with people you resonate with, you hang around with people that you connect with, and you hang around with people that want to be around you too. Yeah, and that's important as well. You don't want to have people that don't want to be around you but are there because they think that you want to have them or they, you know. No, so yeah. So yeah, but anyway, we digress, but we'll keep it short now and move forward, and we'll try and catch up with Joey shortly and do another podcast then, all right? Alrighty, all right. See you later.
