Fully Grown Homos with Dave and Matt.

Speaker 2:

On today's episode, we're going to talk about our Top 10 things we like to do in the gay community.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, top 10 things that we like to do, and we'll show you how to make them a little bit gay, a little bit flashy a bit, or gayer, gayer than they already are. We'll talk about some of our favourite things to do and some things that we're yet to do, but we're going to do. We're going to put them on our list of things to do and we'll probably discuss them afterwards. Okay, what we're gonna go with them. So one of our favorite top things to do in the gay world is to go to the sauna. So the sauna, being church, is where we go to fuck, but it's more than that, isn't it? It, dave?

Speaker 2:

Yep, we go there to socialise, we go there to talk, we go there to put our podcast out.

Speaker 1:

If you heard the previous episode or another episode, you'll hear that Dave's our publicity manager. He likes to talk about our podcast a lot when we're not podcasting.

Speaker 2:

Oh, my phone, that's Brittany Brittany's going off again. She loves contacting us during our podcast sessions.

Speaker 1:

Yes, and Dave just doesn't know how to silence anything.

Speaker 2:

Well, my phone's silent. My watch isn't.

Speaker 1:

Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, anyway, but yeah, so the sauna is a fun place to go and there are different types of saunas. There are three in Sydney currently that we have Three? Yeah, no, there's two and one.

Speaker 2:

That is not really a sauna.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so there's a few, quite a few, sex on premises, venues as such, and one that we're Brittany stop it One that we are going to try out because I've been recommended to go and try it out. But the ones that we definitely have tried out are we tried out Sydney Sauna. That was lots of fun. In fact there are three, you are right.

Speaker 2:

There are three. There is Sydney Sauna Because of its arrows.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, arrows, yeah, sorry, yeah, there are arrows, yeah, arrows, oh yeah, arrows. Yeah, sorry, there are arrows, yeah, and look, that's probably our local and that we sort of do frequently.

Speaker 2:

That's where we met. That's where we met All that kind of stuff.

Speaker 1:

That's where all this began. And then we've got X by 357, which is AKA former body line Used to be body line but sort of so much better now, from a clientele perspective as well. Another bunker, and then the one that we definitely need to try out is the bunker, because we've heard lots of good things about the bunker, so we're going to head there one day and again, that's not really a sauna as such, it's more of a cruising area. Yeah but apparently it's quite big and um and quite so this sauna.

Speaker 2:

So yeah, but it's um I'm talking about yeah, yeah, it's a double entendre um, but it's. It's quite a cool venue and it's very accepting and very um open to all different people so, and it's also available for quick sessions in the sun in the daytimes. Yeah, a lot of businessmen go there apparently.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so we're definitely going to try out the bunker as well. So that's probably one of our top things that we like to enjoy in the gay world. Some of the other things that you can do are Oxford Street. Now it's iconically known as always being a gay venue for a long time. It's changing a lot. The face is changing, a lot of the shops are disappearing, unfortunately, yeah. But then, look, I'm hoping that there's plans to sort of reopen and remodel and do a lot of those things. I'm sure that Clovermore will not let it disappear as such. Yeah, it will always have a little bit of sprinkle, a little bit of glitter, because it is, I guess, the home of Mardi Gras, so it will have that and it will be known as their gay strip.

Speaker 2:

But you've also got Newtown just up the road as well, which is becoming more and more gay. Well, Newtown's always been very diverse, and we're talking about Sydney here, guys, if you're listening internationally.

Speaker 1:

If you're listening somewhere else, sorry. We don't know many other places.

Speaker 2:

But if you want to tell us about those places, we're more than happy to review them for you. Yeah, 100%.

Speaker 1:

And if you want to pay for our trip to go there, we'll do that as well. But yeah, so, like Oxford Street is still a gay hub, it's still got lots of really cool clubs in it, like Universal, the Burdekin the Burdekin's not on Oxford Street, but it's Oxford Street adjacent.

Speaker 2:

Adjacent to Liverpool Street. Oh, it is, it is. It is Sorry.

Speaker 1:

I'm thinking of the other one. Oh God, my brain does not function. I should have written shit down. I don't write stuff down. But you've got Universal, you've got Stonewall, the Columbian, the Columbian. You've got all those bars that are really cool and have great, absolutely fantastic drag shows and things like that in there as well. She's gone, bonkers.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I'm just going to have to turn my phone off.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, imagine that I'm just going to turn my phone off? Yeah, Not my phone my watch, your watch to silent. Yeah, sorry about this guys.

Speaker 2:

Sorry, I'm sure, Bro Brittany, you are going to get silent Get muted, but yeah, so Ox street has lots of cool venues.

Speaker 1:

Like I said, it is the home of mardi gras. It's where mardi gras basically meets all the way up and it's full of eclectic people. There are lots of fun, but it's also home of some really cool little restaurants and things like that as well. Like, you've got claire's kitchen there now. I'm yet to take dave to claire's kitchen. I'm yet to go to claire's kitchen, but claire's kitchen, from what I'm led to believe, is a cabaret style restaurant. But you go and sit down and have a meal and watch an artist perform. Um, I know um, and I don't want to say her name wrong because I can never pronounce her last name, but her name is deborah kryzak or something like that. Um, she performs a lot with darren mapes and um, they do lots of different shows. They perform at clinton's darren that we know. Darren that we know. That plays the keys at um x, y, 357 um now it used to play at 357 on sunday.

Speaker 1:

Arvo where we go on very talented, phenomenal music super fun guy yeah, awesome guy, um, um, check him out. Um. He's performed with some of Australia's greatest, like Casey Donovan and and and alike, um, so, yeah, um. But, like I said, claire's Kitchen is a cool little venue that I've not yet experienced. It used to be slide, which again was awesome, but then just off um oxford street is burke street and all those streets and all those streets as well.

Speaker 1:

But there's lots of really cool little places around there, like low 302, which is fantastic. It's again. It's a really bougie little place. You walk in via a curtain and you wouldn't even know it was there and it's got the best cocktails right. Um fantastic little shows that you can go and see.

Speaker 2:

Um great dining, great food, like just finger food style food not a sit down event um, but really really cool um so I like going to kinsale as well with that. Yeah, can tell us it's great.

Speaker 1:

The suit there is always pretty good it's a good vibe as well. You know great vibe as well. So yeah, lots of, lots of cool places on and near oxford street. So then we've got another one. Let's take it to nature. Let's go to the nude beach.

Speaker 2:

Well, Matt, how many nude beaches have you been to?

Speaker 1:

Oh, myself I've probably been to Obelisk Beach frequently and again, this was in my younger days and I used to more than I wouldn't necessarily go to the beach itself, because that was quite exposed and I was a bit body conscious, a bit cocktie conscious back in those days. Now I don't care. Well, I think you've learned a lot since then. I've learned a lot. I've seen a lot of dick, so I know that mine is perfectly fine, yours is perfectly beyond fine. It's perfectly fine. Um, and I've been to. I haven't been to cobblers, but I've heard a lot about cobblers beach. I definitely want to go there and check that out. Is?

Speaker 1:

that the same as La Perouse. No different again. But La Perouse I haven't been to either. The only one I've ever been to is Birdie Beach, Birdie Beach okay.

Speaker 2:

And that's towards Newcastle Way, newcastle Way.

Speaker 1:

I walked along that as a young boy and for those that have heard of a previous episode, the boy that me and him used to play when we're together, when we're at school I went with his family for a holiday to newcastle or for a weekend away and me and him walked up birdie beach and seen all the naked people and it was like they got no clothes on. Um, it was quite funny as young school boys, um, and stuff like that. Um, but yeah, so I have been to birdie beach too, but not in well, I've been an adult. Um, but yeah, nude beaches lots of fun, but even beaches in general.

Speaker 2:

I think you know you don't have to be a gay beach, but it's, but we make it gay.

Speaker 1:

How do we make? It gay, we take our music, music and we put our tent up, we put our little pop-up tent, we take my fun speedos. Put our spray tan on. Oh, we don't put spray tans on, but we do. Sit there and rub suntan lotion all over each other. Yeah, yep, sometimes we have to bury our tent in the ground because we might be excited.

Speaker 2:

Then we run to the water. We run.

Speaker 1:

Go into the water with frolic and fondle um and lose your glasses, your expensive sunglasses yes, okay, some dickhead worry sunglasses into my ray-bans, into the um water. Who's that, matthew, maybe me? Um got dunked by a wave and those ray-bans, let's freaking 300 ray-bans I've never been seen again. Um, some fish is swimming around in a really cool pair of Ray-Bans. But what's the funnest part?

Speaker 2:

of the beach. Dave, the funnest part is checking out the shower room, the challenge in the change rooms. There's some really good beaches that have got some really good change rooms.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, mainly beach, I mean, as in like you know, I'm not saying they're fun changing for sex perving, but I mean they are. But what I'm saying is they're very well designed. They're they're great um additions to the beach and well, um well maintained. Yeah, could you. Beach is good. Yeah, I love it. Could you beach is definitely the best one to go to for us. Yeah, manly.

Speaker 1:

I love manly manly, but you love Manly Beach. Coogee Beach is great. That's always good for a roller coaster.

Speaker 2:

Bondi hit or miss.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, bondi is, we've had some fun there. I like it but it's not my favourite. It's not my favourite. Yeah, and it's not nude, but Tamarama is the gayest of them all. Yeah, glamorama.

Speaker 2:

If you get a chance to go to some of the new beaches, definitely go down there, because they're nice little secluded beaches. They're pretty accessible most of the time.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, obelisk isn't so much, obelisk is a climb, but it's still worth it, and I've never been to that just because of that thing.

Speaker 2:

I mean my back has always sort of like pushed me away from that, that thing. Well, I mean, my back has always sort of like pushed me away from that, you know, in terms of like walking down that distance, but there is actually stairs directly down as well, so I will take you there this summer, but I know it's a very popular one amongst the gay um community. A lot of people talk about obelisk more than anything else.

Speaker 1:

Yeah and cobblers is the other one that's very popular as well so yeah, um, now I guess when we're talking venues to go to, newtown is obviously a suburb that is very diverse we touched on that earlier and they have lots of different places. They've got the Newtown Hotel that's got some phenomenal drag shows and shows.

Speaker 2:

Is that the Imperial? Is it?

Speaker 1:

No, okay. And then you've got the Imperial Hotel, which almost needs its own mention.

Speaker 2:

I need to go down there a bit more because obviously Matt's a bit more. Well, I work in the city, so I'm easier. Yeah, so for me, I'm just sort of like getting to know some of these places.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so the Imperial Hotel itself is phenomenal Like it's always been great as a venue. It is the home of Priscilla, obviously, the Queen of the Desert, which was a movie in 1991 or something like that. I think it is, and I think they're talking about the remake.

Speaker 2:

They found the bus and they're doing it all up.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, they're doing it all up so hopefully that comes out sooner rather than later and hopefully Baz has got something in that, because if Baz Luhrmann does it, it'll be spectacular, but I don't know who's actually on board for it, but it'll be awesome no matter what, Some of the original characters, that'll be good yeah that'll be awesome.

Speaker 1:

But the Imperial is awesome, like I said, the home of drag and dine. They do lots and lots of really cool stuff for the community as well. They've always been a part of the community. Lots stuff um for the community as well. They've always been a part of the community. Lots of places down there um theater shows. Lots of musicals in sydney lots and lots and lots and lots of musicals in the sydney. Currently we've got hamilton playing and while it's not, I'd iconically, a gay musical, it's a musical, so it is we're gonna see sister Act coming up soon.

Speaker 1:

We're going to see Sister Act, which is going to be awesome. That's currently playing in Sydney as well. There's a couple of others that we've got in the pencil.

Speaker 2:

I've just seen.

Speaker 1:

Chicago. That was amazing. But then, apart from that, you have also got a lot of community theatre Really worth checking out, because you'll see some super talented people in community theatre. Um, some great shows that are actually on. Moore park has got the spiegel tent, yeah yeah, but for the community theatre you have significantly less. You're paying for your ticket prices as well. So if you do like the theatre, go and check it out. I know that, like different groups like I think it's the canterbury theatre group I don't know what their name is and all that kind of stuff Bankstown.

Speaker 2:

I know they actually do good shows, but you don't even have to go far afield. I mean, local RSLs and stuff have their own little theatre groups as well, and we went to see.

Speaker 1:

Oh we recently discovered we wanted. So there was this show called the divine miss m right, which is obviously about bat middler right, and we wanted to see it. But then we looked at the price of the ticket. We thought, oh, that's a bit xy.

Speaker 2:

So we only because we've been out a few times that month and we didn't yeah like yeah, yeah, yeah, we're no, no, not because we didn't want to go and see it um, but we managed to get told of a couple of or four um free tickets right, which was amazing.

Speaker 1:

Thank you very much, panthers. Um, and we went and seen this show and talk about our mime katherine acorn. You are amazing, you are. You are iconic um, you are absolutely.

Speaker 2:

You are a hollywood showbiz.

Speaker 1:

You are really like I cannot rave enough about your showmanship, your vocal prowess, your comedy timing, your dance ability your warmth, your warmth after the show chats. You've got fans for life, definitely, and we will always be following you. Yeah, yeah, we're going to go and see her.

Speaker 2:

We're going to see you. We're going to see her. We're going to see you.

Speaker 1:

In Bangor's Amash with Verushka Darling and Iota. Yeah, now, iota I don't know much about, but again he was we, we are, we're going to the.

Speaker 2:

Spiegel Tent again soon. I think next month, isn't it? I can't even remember. We've lost track. Matt has this habit of like planning things to the point where he plans things on top of other things, to the point where we're going to multiple venues within days of each other.

Speaker 1:

We're going to see abba beyond again. We're not abba, yeah, we wish. Oh god, that'd be amazing. We're going to see beyond again, which is an abba show, followed by the, followed by banging, bangers and mash, bangers and mash yeah, which is in the emerald room, because it's funny, because I say to matt sometimes, what, what's, what's the plans for next weekend?

Speaker 2:

he goes oh um and he goes oh shit. Let me open the. We've got thursday, friday, saturday, sunday, monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday and all next week, and we've double booked for sunday um, so we've got to say yeah that's what he's like yeah.

Speaker 2:

So so we're busy boys and we have lots of fun, but it's, I wouldn't change it at all these are things that we are terming as gay things, and not all gay things there's this that the gay we find in the gay community we enjoy and theatre group and stuff can be classified as a lot of.

Speaker 1:

I suppose it's theatre, it's a gay group. Yeah, when you go to the theatre, you Showmanship isn't it. You do see a large amount of other gays. Are they gay? Lgbt Plus Q plus LGBT plus you out and about in there.

Speaker 2:

So that's why we're classifying it as a gay thing to do. Again, these are 10 takes. They're not necessarily all gay, but they're just gay environmental issues going on. They're gay environmental places that we like to go to. So that's what the whole podcast is about.

Speaker 1:

So again top five. So far, we've got the sauna one, oxford street two, three, we've got nude beaches. Four, we've got the imperial hotel. Five, we've got theater shows. And then let's just jump on to number six, shopping, gay shopping. And I want to say that everyone loves shopping, but I think there's nothing to be a gay sport.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I love shopping.

Speaker 1:

I want to say that everyone loves shopping, but I think it doesn't have to be a gay sport. Oh, I love shopping. And then Dave loves shopping. As long as he's got a yellow sticker, he'll buy it. It doesn't even matter if he needs it. It could be orange, it could be green, depending if it's marked down, I don't care, as long as it's on special. So, some of the cool for a long time now, right, old um. But these shops that we're about to mention, they've been part of our community and they give back to the community. So you've got Daily Mail, which the boys in there are so bloody good. Yeah Right, they cater for the community, they are ahead of the trend when it comes. And, yes, it's a business, right, I'm not denying that it's a business for them and they make money from it, right, hopefully. But they don't have to give so much back, but they do.

Speaker 2:

And they don't hard sell or anything. They just are happy to help you and if you can't find anything they'll get it in for you.

Speaker 1:

They will also be really brutally honest with you, which is what you need when you're trying on clothes. Right, honey? You need to go up a size honey. You need to go down a size honey. That doesn't work for you, all right, and they will tell you exactly what works, what doesn't work, and they are.

Speaker 2:

It means that they might not sell anything to you, but they're being honest and upfront with you. They're not going to let you walk out that shop looking like a dog's dinner no, they they have pride in what they do, they do and they have a lot of care for the people that come to their shops as well yeah and look, and they're always up for a chat, unless they're obviously they're flat out, like at mardi gras times.

Speaker 1:

But even at mardi gras times they still have time to talk to you got a time for a chat and stuff like that.

Speaker 2:

They're just absolutely, and they have so much knowledge and so much experience and so much um life lessons that they've taken on board in the time they've been there, yeah, um, and they've seen so many changes. They've seen so many changes, but they've embraced so many changes, but they've embraced them too.

Speaker 1:

They also know what's ahead of the trend as well. So, like I mean, when Mardi Gras announces its theme, for example, if they say it's going to be glitter this year, those boys duck off around the world to find the best in glitter clothing. Get it all made, get it all set ready for the party season ahead so that we can walk in and pick an outfit in five minutes right matches.

Speaker 2:

What is that?

Speaker 1:

watches in the theme. Well, that's in the theme. So again, I don't think a lot of the community give the recognition that they just assume that oh yeah, they've got all these to close shop. Yeah, yeah right, but they do so much work for us and to make sure that we all look our best throughout the party season and throughout everyday. Wear Like they've always got something else that you can wear every day, like the shorts that they have in there are some of the most comfortable shorts.

Speaker 1:

yes, some of them are very small, but some of the most I can't remember the name Tiger Horse. I think think it is the most comfortable shorts I've actually worn in my life. Are they the beige ones? You had the beige ones and the pink ones.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, they look really good on you. Yeah, they look good as well. They're skin tight, but they're not to the point where they're not obscene skin tight. Yeah, they just look so cool.

Speaker 1:

They fit really really nicely and they're so freaking comfy as well. So, yeah, so definitely love the boys at Daily Mail. Shout out to you guys, and then Saks Leather or Saks Fetish I can't remember which one that's called but again, it's further up on Oxford Street now.

Speaker 2:

And again, really helpful. And again, we've been in there and it's been full of couples, as in like straight couples, gay couples, white couples, lesbians, you name it. The demographics of people that go in these shops are just everybody. But again, very helpful people, Very knowledgeable and it's full of very erotic and surprisingly good quality clothing isn't it.

Speaker 1:

The clothing is fantastic, like I've said, when I was going through my leather stage, uh, my daddy stage, um, all right, I literally went in there and, like everything else with me, I went full in and I've brought a shirt, I bought the vest, I bought the pants, I bought the freaking, you know, the boots, the hats, the gift mask the hat the gift. No, I didn't buy a gimp mask. I do have a gag ball that I'm going to give to Dave soon.

Speaker 1:

That was a gift that you were giving yes, but yeah, so again, those guys really good and really knowledgeable as well. But you've got a really nice hat, haven't you? You've really like that as well.

Speaker 2:

That's so cool, that's hot yep, but again, I mean, you can mix and match with those and that's the nice thing about it. You don't have to have full leather. No, correct, correct, you don't have to. But if you've never been there and you want an experience and you just want to go and have a look at some fun attire that can be used for daily wear, For, yeah, anything you can, I mean you know they've got lots of different sorts of varieties.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, exactly no rules apply. But yeah, go and have a look um gay shopping, oxford street and newtown like newtown's got some phenomenal shops as well yeah, I mean you know, but it doesn't have to be closed.

Speaker 2:

I think you know we've gone on bead shopping up there, haven't we? As in bead, as in not anal beads.

Speaker 2:

Well, we've gone shopping for beads because matt likes to make um jewelry, bracelets and stuff like that which he's going to be taking britney and the rest of us out for a day trip one day. Yep, um, we've sat there and we've made bracelets all together and it's good fun and they're expensive to buy, but when you make them yourself, they become more personalized but also they are cheaper to make. Yeah, because even though they are expensive to buy the items, but they're not really comparable to what you're paying for a pre-made one yeah, so like.

Speaker 1:

So then then after gay shopping, mardi gras itself right, it's iconic. That's obviously a gay thing to do, it's gay friendly, it's allies, it's. Have you ever been in the? Mardi gras, matt, I have been in the Mardi Gras, matt. I have been in the Mardi Gras back when I was young. There you go. It was a long walk. I tell you what, by the time you get fed from, the energy Is that in heels. No, it was just in joggers.

Speaker 2:

I was in boy attire.

Speaker 1:

Very rare for me to wear girl attire unless I'm doing an actual production show. Back in my day I used to do some amateur theatre and stuff like that, so that's when I did my and now he just does it for me at home, you wish. I did actually stumble across my corset the other day and I'm sinking in thought of myself. I wanted that for the fancy dress that we went to, but I found it now because that's standard, you'll find things.

Speaker 2:

Six weeks too late. Put it in the closet.

Speaker 1:

It's in the closet. I know where it is now, but by the time we come to use that again, I'll forget where it is. But Mardi Gras, so lots of fun. It attracts lots of tourists to this country.

Speaker 2:

I mean, we were slightly disappointed this year. We were given some free tickets by our beautiful friend who couldn't attend this year. We weren. We were given some free tickets by our beautiful friend who couldn't attend this year. Yeah, and we were disappointed in Mardi Gras. We were disappointed at the location. At the location Now we've gone and got free spots and we've been in a better vantage position. When we were this time and we were given these tickets, which were quite expensive to buy, yeah, obviously, they gave us access to a toilet and a bar area, which which, again, you could easily get access to in other areas. Yeah, um, but we were so far down the end of the line that everyone was exhausted by the time they got to us. Yeah, but it was just.

Speaker 2:

it was just so disappointing because we were expecting to be sat in like a grandstand position and we thought it was seated we were stood up and we we ended up having a less advantage position because we were further back from the railings where we could have been for a free event.

Speaker 1:

Right up yeah.

Speaker 2:

We could have been across the railings.

Speaker 2:

So look so don't always go and buy tickets, guys. I mean, if you can go, just go and enjoy it and get there early, get there nice and early and then get up on. I mean we tend to find on the top of Flinders Street. The beginning of Fl comes from Oxford Street into Flinders Street, just around the corner. There you'll get good vantage points and you don't have to get there super early. And we've had some really good vantage points there, haven't we? Yeah, and again, I mean you are still seeing towards the end of the course, but not the end end, if that makes sense.

Speaker 1:

And look, mardi Gras itself. The actual parade is the end of the Mardi Gras festival, so part of the Mardi Gras festival, so part of the Mardi Gras festival and one of my favourite, favourite things to do. That unfortunately got cancelled this year due to all the asbestos mulch that are used by councils all around. The whole place is Fair Day, so Fair Day itself is the best day on the calendar for me.

Speaker 2:

I love it. I've only ever been there once, matt. This would have been my once, matt. Yeah, this would have been my second time going this year, but obviously it got cancelled. But for me again, misconception and not understanding the whole concept of what, um, fair day was about. I honestly believed in my heart of hearts it was a dog day, as in going to take your dogs to a park and a picnic and place like that. But I was so blown away, yeah, and I was just so impressed with what I saw and the organization, the actual quality of all the stalls, the atmosphere, the the whole venue was just like pumping.

Speaker 1:

It was so, so good, yeah it was so yeah, and I was just blown away with it I really really like yeah, we had, like I said, but it was a, it was an awesome day. I love fair day.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it's family inclusive, so we'll be taking some of our straight friends with us this year yeah, definitely, definitely well, where? I don't know yeah, next year, next year, yeah yeah, definitely, definitely. They'll be coming along with us won't be long, because we're now literally three quarters of the way through the year already it's flying, um, but yeah.

Speaker 1:

so fair day. Mardi gras, um, all part of the Mardi Gras Festival, and then throughout the whole Mardi Gras Festival, you've got film festivals and lots of other stuff on, so a big thank you to Mardi Gras.

Speaker 2:

Because they give so much back they really do. Without the pink dollar in the city, then the city will definitely miss out?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 1:

I don't think people realise just how much money the gay community bring into the CBD itself yeah, of course we do, of course we do, but yeah, so then you've got lots of drag shows throughout the whole city as well. Now they're in a lot of the venues, like, I said, the Oxford Hotel have, you've got sort of Universal. You've got Newtown. Now some of my favourite drag artists are like in australia and in sydney. Um, you've got one that is, she's just phenomenal. Um, minnie cooper. Love, love, love, love love you um I love prada clutch.

Speaker 2:

Prada clutch is sensational she's all singing, all dancing bloody sensation but she is just so good she does drag bingo, she does, she takes drag to the, to the world, like she takes it to the community.

Speaker 1:

But she's an amazing performer.

Speaker 2:

She's got a great voice, um, and she will call people out and she will make fun of people, but in a way that everybody enjoys it yeah she will never berate people um to the point where they feel victimized or demised by anything.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I think most of the drag artists would. They would always be that way as well. Um, drag drag queens can read a bitch, but you can have so much fun. I mean, we've gone out with some straight friends, haven't we? And they've actually been horrified because they've been sort of like proposition but in a fun way, and they've walked away and they've loved every aspect of it and they would say I'd go back again.

Speaker 1:

That was so much fun, drag, entertaining is in entertainment. At the penultimate it is like literally phenomenal. I love it. And again, you don't have to go to any particular venue, rsls have them.

Speaker 2:

You know they have lots of drag, bingo, trivia nights and you see, these people, like our local rsl, I mean, you know, every every first monday and every thursday or last thursday they have a different, obviously trivia or bingo. Yeah but, you see all the people coming in and they're all dressed up in different sort of like attire. Some of them are a bit wacky, but you know, again, it's down to them and their choice of clothing it's fun.

Speaker 1:

But get along to a drag show, you'll enjoy it. You'll enjoy it because it's light, it's fun, fun, it's entertaining, and if you do, get picked on.

Speaker 2:

just embrace it because it's fun. Go with it, it is fun.

Speaker 1:

And if you get the opportunity to buy the girls a drink, do that as well. A lot of them love a drink. We don't really do the whole tipping culture in Australia. I know in America they all love tips.

Speaker 2:

But also, I mean for me. I mean having watched, not the drag show that you watched, Matt, but I mean having watched. No, no, I mean having watched small snippets of drag performers getting themselves ready through documentaries or whatever. I mean I'm absolutely blown away with the time, the effort, the amount of costume changes they do, the skill level is amazing.

Speaker 1:

Honestly, it is so true, true to them, I mean, give them all credit where credit's due you know this is what I say to you when I say that it's an art form and because it really does like. Okay, and if I take my five minutes in the drag world when I did my like my show singlets and stilettos, which was about these three workmen that ended up turning into drag queens that saved the community, sort of thing a bit reminiscent of a few different shows, but it was fun. But my makeup skills were shit because I'm not trained as a makeup artist and I just look like a man in a dress, like you know. It was fun and my whole family thought it was amazing, but when I look back at the photos I go ain't got nothing on these queens. Even the baby queens are way better than me and makeup tutorials are all over online and stuff like that.

Speaker 2:

But you've got to find your own face and what works for your face and there was also a series that was a three-part series from uk which you can access on ABC I think it is here or one of the other platforms and it was called the Lost Poison Fairies, oh yeah, and that had the main character as a drag artist, but they were going through adoption process as well. So it's a very, very informative little documentary series. It's not a documentary, it's a film series.

Speaker 2:

A film yeah, three parts, but again, it obviously highlights a lot of issues within the gay community, but it also shows how desperate people are to have children and how wonderful you know the gay community can be parents as well. You know what?

Speaker 1:

I mean yeah.

Speaker 2:

So yeah.

Speaker 1:

So drag shows, get along and see one, social clubs throughout the gay community. So there's lots of different clubs within the community. So you've got like your bears, you've got um and the bears like the harbour, sydney bears, city bears, which operate predominantly from oxford street.

Speaker 1:

They'll operate from oxford or Newtown. They'll set up different venues and different events and stuff like that so they'll organize events for the bears. Like, I'm a member of the bears, a paying member, um, but I don't really partake because the the ex got them in the in the breakup. Um, some of them were not so friendly. Some of them were really friendly. So once you find your tribe and your where you, where you want to go and hang, they're really good to be their part of. You got pollies again. Um, I don't know much about pollies but I know that's a club, that sort of a lot of people go and not an actual physical club but a group of people. They all meet together. You've got the syd and Lesbian Choir.

Speaker 2:

Lots of different little communities within our community If you use the Meetup app, which is a very, very good app it's not a gay app or anything like that. We've mentioned it in one of our previous episodes on apps. The Meetup app spelled M-E-E-T? U-p. Yeah, exactly that word, I think, is either red or white, so I can't remember the actual background. But if you want to take part in any activity, any group or organization within your local environment or demographics where you want to be, type it in and you'll be surprised what is out there. So we've obviously gone to some gay ones because we've typed in gay venues.

Speaker 2:

And again, you don't have to be gay to go to any of these venues. But again, use the meetup app. It's there for people to get out and about you know there's gay photography clubs. There's gay like everything, every single thing, gay knitting, anything, you know google is your best friend, um, but the meetup app is definitely something for socially. You know, if you want a more of a social life, or you're on your own, or you want new interesting people or even just a new hobby, go along.

Speaker 1:

I haven't even looked on the Meetup app to find out if there's gay podcasters. I'm sure there would be. I'm sure there should be some Meetup Like I said, we forget.

Speaker 2:

We get so transfixed in life that we forget that these apps can be advantageous to our needs. And you know, we could be searching online, not find what we want and then think, fuck, you know there's an app out there that can just do all that for us.

Speaker 1:

But then I don't know where I'd find time to actually meet up with anyone else. Oh my God, we have a busy schedule, we do. But yeah, so you've got social clubs as well. So, dianne, we've covered gyms. Gymming, fitness is a big part of the GPT plus community.

Speaker 2:

Well, I haven't been to a gym for a while now, as you know.

Speaker 1:

Well, fitness in general, right. So I'm not necessarily talking about taking yourself to the gym and sweating it up and pumping iron and all that. That's a good thing, though. However, you can definitely do that. Fitness is good for so many things, right. Keeping yourself physically fit, um, meeting people it's good for meeting people, right. It's good for your mental health. It's good for your mental well-being. It's good for your physical well-being. It's not so good for your bank balance.

Speaker 2:

Well, no, they're okay when I'm talking fitness right again.

Speaker 1:

If you go onto the meetup app, for example, you will find a walking group in your area. Yeah, we're talking about gyms, though we're not talking about just I'm talking general fitness as well though, right.

Speaker 1:

So the thing is that you could find a walking group in your area. That's not going to cost you anything. It might cost you a cup of coffee at the end of the walking group and stuff like that, um, where you could actually go around. But if you're talking about gyms itself, so I am a member of one gym. Now I've cut back from my three or four that I used to be members of and I'm only a member of one, and I love my gym. I go to multiple gyms of the same franchise. If you've heard of the episodes, the gym and the exercise is a good part of it, but the locker rooms are pretty hot as well.

Speaker 2:

Okay, well, you do the workout and then you do the workout after that.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, the workout and the post-workout um yeah yes, I do um and it's fun. It's also a good perv, but it is good for your body, good for your mind, good for your, and it's also good for putting out podcasting material, isn't it mate?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, when I talk about how. I was at the gym the other week and again I kind of looked under the cubicles because I could sort of hear a little bit of rustling Sorry, we've got dogs fighting again, sorry. And they're not fighting, they're wrestling, cuddling each other, telling each other they love each other Pretty similar to what the two guys in the shower were doing next to me the other week. I could see these two little feet and I said you told me about that, didn't you?

Speaker 1:

And I went oh, they're both facing the same way. They must be Spooning, spooning in the shower while upright, and then I could hear a little bit of.

Speaker 1:

And then it turned from water to steam to, and I thought to myself oh okay, I'll let them have their fun and I'll sort of go into the steam room and chill out for myself, and that as well, because they were having some fun. So yeah, but, but that's your take on the gym. Yeah, so I love gyms for that, but they are, like I said, good for exercising and that as well. Yeah, so that's pretty much our top 10 things that we enjoy doing, the things that we enjoyed doing, and adding a little bit of gay flavor to it.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah, like I said, anything in life can be as gay as you want it to be.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, oh so the other thing sorry, there's another venue that we failed to mention that I've recently found out. So we're gonna have to probably skip the raffles on a thursday night one night at least, because I found out that. So we're going to have to probably skip the raffles on a Thursday night one night at least, because I found out that Palms actually do karaoke on a Thursday night. Now, thursday, thursday night, that's midweek, matt, that's not good. I'm okay, I work in the city, so I'm going to have to hang back.

Speaker 2:

Oh, so you're talking about you going there? Yeah, obviously I'm talking about me.

Speaker 1:

So I'm not being invited. Obviously you're invited. If it's karaoke, everyone's invited, so they can see me perform. Um, you guys can come along on a thursday night as well we could actually do a podcast from there, matt no, it's too noisy no, but we could do a post podcast, post podcast.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah, definitely, um, so you can tell everybody about the sticky carpets and everything else, because that's what palms is about, and if you've never been to palms, I would say to you go go, if you love 80s music, you love everything about nostalgia and the reminiscence of the 80s and 90s, then Palms is your best happy place to be.

Speaker 1:

Palms is awesome.

Speaker 2:

But if you're a girl?

Speaker 1:

wear bloody closed-toed shoes. Wherever you go anywhere, wear closed-toed shoes. Did you say toed shoes? Closed-in-toed Hoes? Fuck, that's hard to say. Make sure you wear proper shoes, all right. Or at least, if you're wearing heels, wear Crocs. Definitely don't wear Crocs. Don't wear Crocs out of your house or on boots. Matt doesn't like how you live Not out of your house, but anyway, yeah. So Palms is fun as well. So there's our wrap-up of top 10. We might have gone a bit more, might have gone a bit less. Top gay things that we enjoy doing so.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, hope you've enjoyed them and let us know what you love to do in our beautiful city of Sydney and hopefully soon the guys from the come down will go to Queensland.

Speaker 2:

We need to go and catch up with these guys. Yeah, they're awesome. And do a podcast with them, because if you've never heard their podcast, definitely tune in, check it out. They are fun, they are so witty, naughty, but they are just so off the cuff as well. Yeah, it's awesome, love them.

Speaker 1:

So it's a big shout out to you guys Yep and Microphone and Sean, but yeah, but yeah. So check those guys out. They're up at Brisbane or they're on the Gold Coast, I think, actually. So we'll be checking them out when we go on holidays in November.

Speaker 2:

We'll put their details on our podcast as well for you to find. And where can they find that, Matt?
